Pet of the Week
This week's pet of the week is the Boxer. Male boxers can be as big as 70 pounds. Female boxers are usually around 50-65 pounds. They get along well with children. They have long ears that sometimes stick up or sometimes hang down.

Pet of the Week
Beagles are good with children. They grow to be 11"-16" tall, and weigh 20-30 pounds. Beagles can be tri-color, brown and white or bronze colored.
I have a Beagle named Charlie who likes to bury his chew bones around our house, chases rabbits, licks people a lot and sniff peoples ears, and likes to run in circles around our house for no reason.

A fun summer treat for your dog
At the Humane Society, I learned how to make a summer treat for dogs. You need a Kong toy. (Kong toys look like a red beehive.)
You mix together some peanut butter and dog food. Then put this into the Kong. Fill up the Kong. Then put some more peanut butter on the top like a lid. Put the Kong into the freezer until it is frozen. Your dog can eat this treat and still stay cool during the summer.

Dog treat recipe
At Camp Kindness on Friday we had a man from the Three Dog Bakery come to help us make dog treats. The treats are made of all natural human ingredients. (All the kids got to try one. So, I have eaten a dog treat!)
My dog, Charlie, really liked these dog treats. Here's the recipe if you want to make some for your dog.
Labrador Love Bites
2 1/2 cups flour
3/4 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
2 tablespoons carob powder
1/2 cup honey
1/2 canola oil
2 large eggs
3/4 cup unsweeted applesauce
1/2 carob chips (You can buy carob powder and chips in the health section of stores.)
Preheat the oven to 325 degrees. Grease three 12-cup mini muffin pans with nonstick spray.
Stir together the flour, baking powder, cinnamon, and carob powder. In a different bowl, whisk together the honey and oil. Then, add the eggs and the applesauce. Whisk together well. Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and stir until moistened.
Fill the muffin cups 2/3 full. Sprinkle the carob chips on top and bake for 20-25 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
Cool to room temperature before serving to your dog. Store in an airtight container for up to 4 days or freeze for up to 2 months.
